making the unMet
‘making the unMet’ is the theoretical mediative proposal resulting form the mapping of the provenance research in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in collaboration with Angela Fusco and Janik Bruschi, mentoring by Elisa Giuliano and presentation to Clare Davies (Assitant Curator, the Met).
Proposing a Reroute: our answer to the need for acquanting museum visitors with the provenance research undertaken by the Met was to propose a new route throught the galleries of the museum itself. This new route followed the objects whose provenance was investigated or that were part of restitutional projects. Our curatorial aim was to disturb and reframe the displayed collection of the Met.
App-guidance tour: the project would be emulated through an in-app platform that presented the tour and its parallelly-running program to the visitors. Alongside a pamphlet, the app would help make the tour and information of our research accessible and available.
Panel Discussion Program: simultaneously to the route, we planned a theoretical series of panel discussions that addressed the collections and groups of artifacts that were mentioned and analysed in our own research. We tentatively explore not only the legal and moral responsibilities of providential and restitutional work, but epxlore the speculative possibilities of dealing with objects whose histories have been erased.
