the 9-panel work takes the transcript of a news anchor covering the wildfires at August Complex, California in 2020. by fitting the text to the iconography of fiery shapes , the work presents the news as an incantation, a spell that is spoken in the world and rhetoric of the climate crisis.
The Shape of Fire @ August Complex invokes the intentionality with which we invoke language to mould the world and our experience of it and asks whether this intentionality is still tangible, and accountable, in a society of spectacle and sensation.
